Excellent advice. It was 40 years back, and I was an immigrant, hungry to build some financial reserves. Yet I quit cold turkey. The guilt of sneaking around for interviews was too much! However, it also created a mental space for clearer thinking about my next steps. And I ended up starting a company.
A good post, except that I'd like to challenge your initial advice to quit before looking for a job. Apart from the fact that this is only for people who can afford it (which you acknowledge), there is the well-accepted (but not undisputed) view that it's easier to find a job while employed (e.g. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/062015/why-it-easier-find-job-while-employed.asp). There are good reasons for this, including greater trust from hiring employers, and the effect that reduced pressure to find a job has on a job-seeker's attitude (including willingness to accept the wrong new job). Your advice may be right for some, but people should think very carefully before taking it.

Another great advice from your post.
