So I'm about to write the 5,000th blog about a founder leaving San Francisco. Leaving SF is the most conventional thing you can do right now ... the crazy contrarians are probably moving to SF. So I’m definitely being very conventional. I love San Francisco. I especially love the San Francisco of ten years ago. I still love the present-day SF (even with all its well-known problems) -- I'm not an SF hater. And my heart will forever be in SF -- it is where I met my wife, where my kids were born, where I started (and sold) my companies, built strong friendships, and where I become myself (I've spent all my adult life in the city).
I followed my girlfriend/now wife of 37 years to Madison. I then followed her to DC. She followed me to LA. We have loved all three places, because we could love them together.
Welcome to NOVA! The rest of the state might debate you on really moving to Virginia versus NOVA. It's a great area with a lot to offer itself and nearby in the region.
Auren as a native Washingtonian (born at Georgetown) grew up & educated in Virginia, Maryland & DC. ( St. John's HS, G'town, GWU) I appreciate your choice to move your family 2,800 miles East to be closer to your family and work remotely. I too am a serial entrepreneur and landed here post dot.com bust in 2001. You are correct San Francisco has transformed especially "The City" where we choose to live and raise our teenage son despite the challenges. It saddens me you have left the heart of San Francisco Silicon Valley ecosystem, but I wish you and your family much joy, happiness and continued success as you establish new roots. Carpe Diem!
You're a sick disgrace to sell abortion clinic info. But fortunately I know where you live with your wife and kids, and where they go to school. So the women you hurt shouldn't be the only ones who are hurt by your evil acts.
Congratulations on the adventure ahead. Even though I left the Bay Area 20 years ago for Boulder, a big part of my heart is still there too. And, glad to hear that SafeGraph is remote-first. :-)
Welcome to Northern Virginia, Auren. It is a fantastic place for parents with young children, with so much to see, so close by. Oh, and it's a good place to start/run/sell tech companies too ;)
Leaving SF but my heart is still in San Francisco

All fundamentally sound and justifiable reasons. Family first and foremost. Best wishes on your house move, and continued success.
Family First FTW

It’s sad to see you all leaving. Best of luck in the new city.
Good move to try something new!
CIA or other govt gig: tell us those details too :)

From the area as well! Would love to meet up

Welcome to VA! I left SF for Charlottesville recently. Shoot me a note if you come through.
